An NYPD officer conspired for months with the leader of a violent Bronx gang with whom she had a romantic relationship, including by trying to help him evade a murder charge, federal officials said this week.
Gina Mestre, a nine-year cop who left the NYPD last year, was arrested Tuesday on charges of racketeering conspiracy, accessory after the fact to murder in aid of racketeering and other counts, according to an indictment unsealed Wednesday by the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
