Notable drop in murders citywide reflects national trend

But rise in car thefts and felony assaults last year kept crime flat in New York City

Overall crime citywide declined only slightly last year, but shootings and homicides dropped notably, leading Mayor Adams to declare New York was once again “the safest big city in America.”
