New York Times employees stage 24-hour walkout after negotiations stall

More than 1,100 reporters, editors, designers, salespeople and security guards employed by The New York Times walked out on a 24-hour strike today after a last-minute push to reach agreement on a new contract failed Wednesday night. 

The Times employees have been working on an expired contract for 20 months and disagreements over wages, health-care, telework and other sticking points could not be resolved before a deadline set by the union at midnight Dec. 8.
