Thousands of Fire Department members Dec. 8, standing so quietly that the whir of a mechanical lift lowering the body of Probationary Firefighter Vincent Malveaux could be heard, paid tribute to him outside Brooklyn's Christian Cultural Center as his casket was transferred from a fire truck to his pallbearers.
He died Dec. 3 after suffering "a medical episode during training" the day before at the FDNY Training Academy on Randalls Island. He was transported to Harlem Hospital, where staff worked unsuccessfully for several hours to try to revive Mr. Malveaux, who was 31 and joined the department as an Emergency Medical Technician in 2017.
