Even as builders across New York scramble to fill open jobs, one group is making quiet but steady inroads: women. Once nearly absent from the state’s construction sites and offices, women now make up about 9 percent of New York State’s construction workforce — and they’re earning more than most of their peers nationwide, according to new data.
An analysis by the trade publication Construction Coverage, drawing on U.S. Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis data, found that women working full-time in New York’s construction industry earn a median annual wage of $62,539, compared with $54,044 nationally.
