To the editor:
The President’s political advisor Stephen Miller has exposed the deep hypocrisy of the MAGA movement. At a recent conference on left-wing terrorism in America, he said it is the job of patriots to protect “our republican system of government.”
Does Mr. Miller understand that his boss’ MAGA movement is not only not protecting that system, but in 18 months of concerted effort has virtually destroyed it?
Do folks know that a republican system is one where the legislature makes the laws, initiates wars, raises tax revenue, makes budgets and appropriates money, not the executive branch?
All of these key indicators of a “republican system” of government have been usurped or subverted or taken over by the one-man legislature known as Donald Trump.
Stephen Miller is either as dumb as a rock, or as smart as a fox. But who really cares.
The important thing is that he is just dead wrong pinning the assault against republican government on the left.

Mr. Shinkoskey, Stephen Miller's latest contribution towards "protecting our Republican system of government" is to equip ICE agents with electric shock gloves that deliver 30 pulses per minute at 340 volts, roughly 3 times as much as a household outlet. Who needs courts when a federal agent can decide life and death by simply grabbing someone?

Politics aside, the argument that the MAGA movement has destroyed the American republic by expanding executive power misinterprets constitutional design.
Accusing the presidency of usurping authority ignores the modern administrative state.
For decades, Congress has voluntarily delegated broad rulemaking powers to federal agencies, a structural shift that has persisted across administrations.
Framing executive actions as a “one-man legislature” overlooks strong legal safeguards.
The federal judiciary blocks overreaching executive orders, demonstrating the separation of powers’ effectiveness.
"Unelected bureaucrats acting without public accountability pose a greater threat to our system than an elected leader fulfilling a democratic mandate."
The MAGA movement aims to restore power to elected officials by limiting administrative overreach, making this a valid debate about federal authority.

From PBS News Hour reporting last night, 8/12:
"Hundreds of federal judges have faced a sharp rise in death threats and security incidents after blocking Trump administration executive orders and policies. The U.S. Marshals Service reported that security concerns jumped nearly 60%, fueled by aggressive verbal and written political attacks against judges who rule against the White House. Prominent jurists like U.S. District Judge John McConnell and Judge John Coughenour received numerous death threats and intimidation after halting administration policies like funding freezes and deportations. Intimidation tactics have weaponized past tragedies, such as unsolicited pizza deliveries sent to judges' homes under the name of Daniel Anderl—the late son of U.S. District Judge Esther Salas, who was murdered in a 2020 targeted attack. President Trump and administration officials have publicly labeled judges who rule against them as "radical left lunatics" and faced calls for judicial impeachment, escalating hostile public reactions online. Affected judges, alongside advocates and judicial groups, have broken traditional silence to speak out regarding the dangers of dehumanizing political rhetoric. National legal and civic organizations warn that continuous attacks on the judiciary undermine the co-equal branch of government and pose an unprecedented danger to the rule of law and constitutional checks and balance."
That's the real power the MAGA movement has brought to elected officials and our Republic.

Right-leaning CBS has also reported on the exact same threats MAGA members have made against judges following negative comments made by Trump and his officials.
The health of our Republic and its checks and balances IS the topic; I suggest everyone focus on it.
Finally, labeling everything you disagree with as "politics", "propaganda", "partisan", "opinion" and "left" is a tiresome deflection. If you doubt that judges who rule against Trump aren't being besmirched by him, and threatened by MAGA adherents as a consequence - THEN PROVE IT rather than deflecting.

Hey Word Man, keep up with the world. This is from the website Media Bias:
'Overall, we rate CBS News as Right-Center Biased in this update due to emerging editorial decisions and leadership influence under Bari Weiss that suggest a shift away from its historically left-center orientation."

I don't want to be "that guy" but a republic is not the same thing as a democracy. In the modern sense, a "republic" only means there is no monarchy, at least officially. China, North Korea, Russia, Iran, Belarus, and all the tinpot dictatorships of Africa are republics, and that is not a lie. As far as them being democracies though . . . he point is Miller could say he is defending a republican system and would not be lying, unless he was a working to make America a monarchy.
