Renewing his claim that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy was intent on bringing enough decline to the U.S. Postal Service to make the case for privatizing operations, New York Metro Area Postal Union President Jonathan Smith Sept. 22 urged President Biden to take the first step toward ousting him by not reappointing Ron Bloom, the Chairman of the Postal Board of Governors.
He said Mr. Bloom had been "steadfast in his defense of DeJoy" despite a series of revelations regarding possible conflicts of interest by the Postmaster General, and one reason might be Mr. DeJoy's recent purchase of $305,000 of bonds from the Chairman's private company.
