March of folly

To the editor:

In “A Night at the Opera” Chico Marx tells Groucho he doesn’t believe in the “Sanity Clause.”  From the gems that come out of the mouths of Donald Trump, J.D. Vance and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., I don’t think they believe in the “Sanity Clause.” Tim Walz calls them weird; but it’s more than weird. Those three are nuts.

While running for president, Trump’s mind and mouth wander into his great esteem for Hannibal Lecter whom he calls a great man. Hannibal, an imaginary killer, is great, but heroic American soldiers are suckers and losers.  

Trump tells the crowd at a rally that he compares dying by electrocution or being killed by a hungry shark. He’s obsessed with sharks. He told Howard Stern that avoiding STDs was his personal Vietnam while he was dodging the draft. 

J.D. Vance once called Trump “America’s Hitler,” but now says Trump is the best president of his lifetime. He said the reason Joe Biden wanted to fight with Vladimir Putin was that Putin didn’t believe in transgender rights. He echoed Tucker Carlson’s nutty conspiracy theory that Biden attempted to flood the heartland with fentanyl to punish people who didn’t vote for him.  He calls many women childless cat ladies.  

Kennedy said a worm ate his brain, but he offered to eat five more brain worms and still beat Trump and Biden in a debate. He found a dead bear and dumped it in Central Park to make it look like a bike accident. He sawed off the head of a dead whale and strapped it to the top of his family’s minivan and drove around with it.  

“Weird” doesn’t go nearly far enough for these three; insanity is closer to the truth.
