If you watch the news you have undoubtedly heard coverage surrounding “Title 42,” a Trump-era law that prevents asylum seekers from crossing our southern border due to concerns over Covid. In recent weeks, GOP leaders from Mitch McConnell to Kevin McCarthy to Greg Abbott said lifting Title 42 would produce an unmanageable surge at the border given the estimated 1.7 million people awaiting an asylum hearing.
