With the federal government shutdown about to enter its third week, hundreds of thousands of workers across the country could soon be facing financial peril.
Some will have received partial pay Friday, but with no resolution to the funding deadlock in sight, federal workers will have to make do with unemployment compensation for the time being. Newly introduced legislation seeks to lessen the burden on the furloughed employees by shielding the workers and contractors from financial ripple effects.
