Despite the mass shooting that killed an NYPD officer and three others in Manhattan last week, the city logged the fewest shootings and shooting victims through the year’s first seven months since 1993, when the department began keeping detailed records on firearms crimes, according to police.
Through July, police reported 412 shootings and 489 shooting victims, surpassing previous lows of 426 and 522, reached in 2017 and 2018, respectively, the department said.
