In a first, Trader Joe’s workers in Massachusetts approve union

In a first for the Trader Joe’s grocery chain, a majority of workers at its Hadley, Massachusetts, location voted in favor of a fully independent union. In the two-day election held by the National Labor Relations Board, 45 out of 81 eligible employees voted in favor of a union in a tent set up behind the store, which is just north of Springfield. 

Organizers, under the banner of Trader Joe’s United, said in a press release that “the victory is historic, but not a surprise,” adding that the challenge is only just starting.
