NYC Health + Hospitals officials credit significant investments in its professional development and staff engagement for a turnover rate among nurses that so far this year has plummeted to 7.3 percent from last year’s 15.3 percent. The rate is significantly less than the national average of 16.4 percent.
Through a variety of initiatives, including residency programs, nurse-led governance councils, skill development fellowships, recognition events and recruitment efforts, NYC H+H has saved more than $88 million in nurse turnover costs, hospital officials announced last week.
