Amid stalled contract negotiations, union employees at HarperCollins Publishers will hold a one-day strike next week. 

Nearly all of the 250 union employees, who work in the editorial, sales, publicity, design, legal, and marketing departments, voted to authorize the July 20 work stoppage if the two sides did not make progress on a negotiations for a new contract. The workers are seeking better pay, improved family-leave benefits, a greater commitment to diversifying staff and stronger union protections, according to Local 2110 of the UAW
