"There are a lot of frightened cops right now," one police officer said March 28. "People are jumpy. There's palpable fear: people are very worried about getting the illness, bringing it home to their families."
He was speaking late that morning, conditioned on anonymity. Hours earlier, it had been learned that Det. Cedric Dixon, a 48-year-old who was a 23-year veteran of the force, had become the first NYPD officer to die of coronavirus.
