Firefighter, EMS unions slam congestion pricing ‘burden’

MTA reluctant to grant exemptions

FDNY first responders are hammering the MTA’s congestion pricing plan, arguing that the $15 toll it will cost them to report to their stations and firehouses within Manhattan’s Central Business District will harm their morale and wallets and, ultimately, impede critical services. 

“Congestion pricing for FDNY EMS is like rubbing salt in this huge wound we have that's never been given a chance to heal,” said Anthony Almojera, a lieutenant paramedic and vice president of the Uniformed EMS Officers union. “Not only are we the lowest paid 9-1-1 first responders but now we’re getting this other tax on us.”
