A former Nassau County detective who carried out a sham police operation to shut down a mob-run gambling parlor on behalf of a rival Mafia crew has been convicted following a federal jury trial of lying to FBI agents.

Hector Rosario, 51, of Mineola, described in an August 2022 indictment as an associate of the Bonanno crime family, consorted for more than a decade to consolidate the crew’s establishment of a gambling monopoly in coffee shops and sports clubs throughout Queens and Long Island, the feds said. He faces five years in prison when he is sentenced.
