More than four years after unionizing, the Daily News Union has reached a tentative agreement for a first contract with the paper's owners, securing the first raises that most of the Daily News' employees have gotten in half a decade.

The provisional contract includes 6-percent raises across the two-year life of the deal and establishes an immediate $60,000 wage floor that rises to $63,000 next May, according to the union. The newspapers' part-time employees will have healthcare coverage under the contract — a first. The agreement also includes job security provisions and expanded leave benefits.
