A Manhattan Supreme Court jury Jan. 15 found Rysheim Smith, 49, guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal beating of 6-year old Zymere Perkins, his then-girlfriend’s son.
The jury also convicted him of manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. During the four-week trial, prosecutors said that Zymere had been starved and tortured for months. The little boy had more than 30 rib fractures and weighed 35 pounds—the weight of a 4-year-old, a city medical examiner testified.
