Members of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York rallied in downtown Brooklyn Tuesday to advance their yearslong push to build an affordable housing project near the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Unions representing construction workers support a proposal to build a 10-story tower on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, which they and their allies say will create more than 1,000 construction jobs and provide affordable housing opportunities for workers. Critics of the plan, though, were concerned that the proposed building would cast harmful shadows onto the garden.
