Court upholds city law shielding fast-food workers

A federal appeals court has upheld a city law protecting fast-food workers from being fired without a legitimate reason.

The Wrongful Discharge Law, enacted in 2021, bars fast-food chains with at least 30 stores across the country from arbitrarily terminating workers or reducing their hours by more than 15 percent. Under the law, fast-food employers can fire employees for misconduct, for failing to perform their job duties, or if the business needs to lay off employees for economic reasons.
