New York City will open applications April 30 for its first free, on-site childcare pilot for municipal workers, a program city officials say is aimed at easing the financial and logistical burdens facing working parents.
Announced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Department of Citywide Administrative Services Commissioner Yume Kitasei at a press conference on March 30, the pilot will serve roughly 40 children ages six weeks to three years at a newly renovated facility inside the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building in Lower Manhattan. The center is expected to open this fall following completion of a $10 million, 4,000-square-foot renovation.
