City fraud investigator pleads guilty to fraud conspiracy

A former fraud investigator with the city’s Department of Homeless Services has pleaded guilty to federal charges of impersonating homeless people to fraudulently obtain Covid unemployment benefits.

Olabanji Otufale and an accomplice, a known fraudster from New Jersey, conspired to use the names and other information of homeless persons in the fall of 2020 and then submit fraudulent claims for unemployment insurance benefits to the State Department of Labor, according to a grand jury indictment handed down in April.
