To the editor,

A recent letter claims another recent letter writer used unsubstantiated facts in a letter about Donald Trump.

Claim: "Under Joe Biden, employment is up 15.37 million jobs. Fact omitted: average weekly hours worked is declining. Source: the Bureau of Labor Statistics: "Beyond the Numbers."

Claim: 142,916,000 unemployed in January, 2021. Fact omitted: the world had just undergone a devastating pandemic. Life has never been exactly the same. Of course unemployment was higher.

Claim: unemployment has remained at a level not seen since the 1960s. Fact omitted: it is common knowledge the "real" unemployment rate does not reflect those who have given up looking for work and the unemployment rate is sometimes far, far higher than BLS statistics.

Claim: "President Biden ... has opened the borders for millions of undocumented immigrants who are bankrupting cities." Not addressed by the author. Why not?

Facts are facts but sometimes require explanation. Fact: Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs in 154 games, Roger Maris in 159. Explanation: Roger Maris did it in three fewer times at bat.
