Broadway theaters will not go entirely dark after all. A strike by musicians that would have closed several shows on the Great White Way was averted last week after their union reached a tentative agreement on a new contract less than 24 hours before a scheduled walk-out.
Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians reached a deal with the Broadway League — the trade association representing Broadway theater owners and producers — in the early morning of Oct. 23 following an 18-hour bargaining session.
