Big worker centers threaten the workers movement

After an explosive arrival early in the pandemic the gig worker organization Los Deliveristas Unidos is facing internal dissent as progress on their demands stalls and watered down. As it gains political access and receives foundation grants, the organization has moved away from using disruptive protests to advocating for a higher minimum wage and access to local hubs where riders can charge their phones and hold meetings. Not all its members are happy about these changes. 

As The Chief reported in March, some members have grown dissatisfied with the turn away from confrontational street protests and the lack of accountability and transparency about decisions and grant funds. Some also appear to side with corporate propaganda that a minimum wage will hurt their income and fear being locked out of the app.
