Anyone but Andrew

To the editor:

Andrew Cuomo is the absolutely worst candidate for mayor. He resigned the governorship due to charges of sexual harassment. I don't believe he would have done so if he was innocent.

Many claim that his sending Covid patients to nursing homes increased the amount of deaths from that disease. Then he had the gall to use state workers, on duty, to help him write a book on his "leadership" during the pandemic.

So why is there an "Anybody but Zohran Mamdani" movement instead of an "Anybody but Cuomo" movement? Because rich people have so much influence over the media. As governor, Cuomo used the threat of layoffs to get poorly-paid state workers to accept a three-year wage freeze while refusing to raise taxes on the rich. Mamdani vows to freeze rents and push for tax increases on the rich. So who do you think the rich are desperate to stop?

There's not a single mayoral candidate I like. I'm still bothered by Mamdani's anti-police rhetoric. But if I had to rank the candidates in order of preference, Mamdani, Curtis Sliwa and Mayor Eric Adams (who's still on the ballot) would all rank ahead of Cuomo.
