UPS violated New York Labor Law and the federal Fair Labor Standards Act by stealing wages from seasonal workers, New York State Attorney General Letitia James alleged in a lawsuit filed Dec. 15. The lawsuit is the culmination of complaints brought by UPS’ seasonal workforce in New York and Teamsters Local 804, the union representing thousands of UPS delivery drivers, warehouse workers and other workers in New York City and the surrounding area.
In press conference on Monday where she announced the lawsuit, James said that UPS has engaged in “systemic wage theft” against its seasonal employees. She said her inquiry began after a tip from leadership at Local 804 and that the investigation uncovered “disturbing and widespread violations across dozens of UPS facilities across New York.”
