In an effort to address growing concerns over worker safety in New York City's booming gig economy, Mayor Eric Adams' administration is proposing a set of new regulations targeting app-based delivery services.
Under the proposal, delivery companies such as DoorDash and Uber Eats would be required to register with the city’s Department of Transportation and provide deliveristas with safety training and protective equipment such as helmets, a signalling device and reflective gear. The initiative comes amid an increase of accidents involving delivery workers under pressure to meet delivery times.
