A strange love

Posted

To the editor:

To dramatize the incompetence and increasing dementia of Donald Trump, I think “Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” is right on point with a senile U.S. General (played by Sterling Hayden) convincing the President (Peter Sellers) to bring about a nuclear apocalypse.

Trump will involve the whole world in a vast, unpredictable and deadly conflict, possibly a nuclear war, to distract from his exposure as a pedophile with some of Jeffrey Epstein’s and Ghislaine Maxwell’s victims.

Donald J. Trump is clearly an imminent danger to the economic welfare of the American people, and more critically to world peace.  We allow him to remain in the presidency at our peril.

Even worse, he's a threat to the survival of the human race.

Your letter would be relevant if you compared the Ayatollah to the senile general in “Dr. Strangelove,” suggesting that he would have initiated a nuclear war to divert attention from his mass killing of Iranian protesters. That comparison would have accurately depicted the tyrant and the threat to global peace!

Gorman’s letter comparing Donald Trump to the senile general, Jack D. Ripper, in “Dr. Strangelove,” is as nonsensical as suggesting Trump poses a threat of nuclear war and economic peril.

Mr. Trump bears the weight of the world’s expectations, largely due to the incompetent leadership of the Obama and Biden administrations. However, I can’t think of a more determined man than Trump to overcome the challenges facing the Middle East and the economies both domestically and internationally.

Despite today’s gloomy outlook, tomorrow will bring brighter days globally. Those who criticize Mr. Trump today will likely praise him for eliminating the threat to global peace posed by Iran, the sponsor of global terrorism.

@Word Man (aka JDonne, "0000", Robert Sica, and Dominic Genovese)

The tired trope of blaming Obama and Biden is very stale. Let's not forget that the current president totally flubbed the COVID pandemic during his first term and Biden spent four hard-fought years trying to get us back on track in literally every facet of life here. I could unpack a lot right there, but, I digress.

President Trump bears the weight of his over-inflated ego that allowed him to believe that he'd get a similar outcome in Iran as he did in Venezuela. His arrogance is measured in the number of innocents that he has threatened to and has killed with willful intent and pride. No amount of deflection can explain away this war of choice that he has dragged the U.S. and the world into to distract from his past with Jeffrey Epstein and the other missteps with our economy like tariffs and tax breaks to wealthy companies and individuals, including himself and his adult children.

    Michael Gorman is right.

It seems a bit far-fetched to think Trump started a war with Iran just to divert attention from the Epstein allegations and his economic policies.

I would like to travel back in time to the Nuremberg trials. The Nazis claimed that their actions were in accordance with German law at the time. However, if they had not murdered Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, non-Aryans, and blacks, they would have been considered criminals. They protested against the unfairness of ex-post facto law.

The court rightly overruled their decision. There are indeed exceptions to our otherwise justified opposition to ex post facto law. These judges determined that certain acts are so heinous, so criminal, and so intrinsically wrong that they violate even existing laws, which may have permitted or even prohibited them. Despite this, it was appropriate to declare these laws null and void and to hold those who obeyed them and acted based on them accountable as criminals. This court ruled that this principle certainly applies to the atrocities committed by the Nazis, even though they were legal at the time.

This historical event is highly appropriate for Iran. President Donald Trump should commit to the Nuremberg principles and impose ex post facto law on the murderous, dictatorial Iranian regime and its allies after their defeat. This move will undoubtedly make the thugs think twice!

I leave the specifics to the Trump administration. However, I reiterate that the Nuremberg trials could serve as a valuable precedent in dealing with this maniacal dictatorship and its fanatical allies.

Gorman’s views on Iran and Mr. Trump don’t quite match up with reality.

Some folks feel compelled to drink the MAGA Kool aid regardless of the overwhelming evidence that Trump has been a disaster. I guess it helps them swallow a pedophile president (and possibly First Lady), $5 gas, $250 electric bills and multi-Billion dollar wars.

Those who are out of touch with reality are the ones who blame Trump for the Iran situation.

History provides a clear and contextual account of how the Obama and Biden administrations contributed to the current Iran issue.

    Barack Obama Administration :

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran Nuclear Deal, faced criticism, including from the subsequent Trump administration.

( Critics argued that the 2015 deal was too limited and provided Iran with a significant financial windfall that it used to support regional proxies and develop its ballistic missile program.)

    Joe Biden Administration :

Diplomatic efforts to revive the JCPOA faced criticism for being ineffective as Iran reduced compliance and increased uranium enrichment.

( The facilitation of a $6 billion fund transfer in 2023 for a prisoner exchange drew criticism for potentially emboldening Iranian aggression.)

    Historical Weapons Milestones

The development of high-tech weapons in Iran has spanned decades, often despite international efforts:

    Nuclear Program:

Iran secretly pursued nuclear technology since the 1979 revolution. In the early 2000s, it was revealed to be building major enrichment plants at Natanz and Arak.

    Ballistic Missiles:

Iran currently maintains the largest inventory of ballistic missiles in the Middle East.

    UAVs (Drones):

Iran has developed sophisticated unmanned aerial vehicles, providing over 1,000 to Russia for use in the conflict in Ukraine.

Individuals living in a state of illusion should seek knowledge of the underlying causes of the current Iran situation. This seems to be the most rational approach to resolving the Iran problem and preventing further human suffering and the potential for the Doomsday scenario to become a stark reality.

I reiterate that appeasement has not diminished tyrannical aggression; it has only emboldened it—that’s a historical fact.

Many countries and leaders who allied with Hitler or had Nazi ties during WWII have since expressed shame and apologized. Others have tried to deny or hide those connections.

( But only the Palestinian Authority ( PA ) openly celebrates its links to Hitler or seeks to instill pride in them.)

As Israel commemorates Holocaust Remembrance Day, it’s crucial to remember that the PA continues to honor Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who allied with Hitler and was responsible for the murder of 5,000 Jewish children and thousands of other civilians.

The development of nuclear weapons by Iran would undoubtedly put a rocket in the free-world’s pocket—trumping any concerns about inflation and the trumped-up Epstein files.

Just an aside, warring nations and the global economy frequently experience high inflation during military conflicts. Historically, wars trigger inflation through a combination of massive government spending, supply chain disruptions, and energy shocks.

If you were a student of history, which undoubtedly you are not, you would know that historical fact!

Thanks wpeakes for reminding us of all (a few?) of word man’s aliases. Is he trying to make us believe people think like he does when it’s only he who spouts Trump cult lies?
