A few of our stories and columns are now in front of the paywall. We at The Chief-Leader remain committed to independent reporting on labor and civil service. It's been our mission since 1897. You can have a hand in ensuring that our reporting remains relevant in the decades to come. Consider supporting The Chief, which you can do for as little as $3.20 a month.

A note to Chief readers

Posted

Dear Chief readers,

Our mission at The Chief is to deliver news stories, features and opinion pieces on civil service and labor that you will get nowhere else. It's subscribers like you who allow us to produce reporting that is sharp, insightful and without favor to any persons or institutions.

We’re trying to make it easy on the eyes too. In the last year, the newspaper has gone through a significant redesign and is being printed by one of the few remaining union shops in the Tristate area. Our website has also had a makeover.

We must, however, account for cost demands placed on us during that time. Effective March 1, we will be instituting modest increases on our subscription prices. These new rates will allow us to remain diligent and timely in reporting on civil service, public and private unions and labor’s role in a post-pandemic city.

Our prices are changing, but the quality of our newspaper is going up. I invite you to share your thoughts on what we’re doing and how we’re doing it through comments on our stories, letters to the editor or an email.

Thank you for your continued support.

Ben August, publisher
