A few of our stories and columns are now in front of the paywall. We at The Chief remain committed to independent reporting on labor and civil service. It's been our mission since 1897. You can have a hand in ensuring that our reporting remains relevant in the decades to come. Consider supporting The Chief, which you can do for as little as $3.20 a month.
To the editor:
1. Presidential usurpation of Congressional functions (straight out subversion of constitutional government).
2. Monopolies in restraint of trade (kings awarded monopolies to friendly barons).
3. Entertainment-oriented nightly news programs (sensationalist video reporting that teaches nothing important).
4. Lack of civics education for children and adults (limits knowledge of rights and responsibilities).
5. Interest-rate exploitation of borrowers (keeps people in perpetual poverty).
6. Daytime TV programming (soap suds in the eyes of democracy).
7. Hollywood movies (full of fantasy instead of reality).
8. Business advertising (misleading or false).
9. Religious theology (ignores findings of history and science).
10. Political party propaganda (criticizes the “mote” in the other party’s eye but fails to remove the “beam” in the favored party’s own eye).
11. SCOTUS’ Citizens United decision (enables outright purchase of elections).
12. SCOTUS’ Presidential immunity decision (enables corruption in office).
13. Lying, cheating and stealing.

This list feels like a total late-night rant. Things are rough right now, but this takes gloom to a whole new level.
It acts like we are all brainless sheep who can't think for ourselves. Do people really believe everyday Americans get brainwashed by soap operas and movies? Give me a break! We know Hollywood is fake. We know ads lie. We aren't stupid.
Blaming the system completely skips over real life. Local businesses beat big corporations every day. Good journalists still break massive stories. Millions of people use their faith to feed the hungry and help neighbors. Even on big legal issues like the SCOTUS immunity case, the courts drew a hard line: no president gets a pass for private, unofficial crimes.
Things aren't perfect, but giving up and crying about it does nothing. We still have the vote. Fix it.

It'll be fixed when Trump and his cronies are out of office. And it will take years to straighten out the mess they created.

More hypocrisy. So he's claiming it's Trump's critics, and not himself, who are brainless sheep. And it's supposed to be okay for the president to have immunity from crimes if he commits them as official acts?

Word Man calls this letter's 13 point list "a total late-night rant". I wonder how he characterizes the 50 to 150 overnight posts Trump puts out nearly every day?
WM/Sica knows that Hollywood movies, TV soaps and ads aren't real. Yet, he swallows whole cloth every blatant lie that comes out of Trump's mouth - J6 was overblown by the media, the 2020 election was stolen, negative stories about Trump are fake news, immigrants are invaders who eat cats and dogs, the reflection pool was vandalized, murdered ICE protesters were trying to kill agents, prices are coming down, foreign countries pay the tariffs, we control the Strait of Hormuz, we already won the war with Iran, Democrats are Communists, etc...etc.
