My name is Shanette Van **** & I too worked for NYCTA as a Token Booth/Station Agent during & after 9/11 terrorists attacks with other NYCTA STATION DEPT employees that are now facing the same issues. The governing body at NYCTA/MTA should be ashamed of themselves of how they handled & are still handling this issue with us to this day. We were 1st responders that day & the days following working alongside of NYPD, FDNY, NATIONAL GUARD, OSHA, NYS CORRECTIONS, SANITATION & other people that are suffering the same fate but have been treated like trash to be thrown away. We also risked our lives are sick now & deserve the same treatment and protection under the same laws as everyone else. WE ARE NOT SURVIVORS…WE ARE 1st RESPONDERS.. WE WERE THAT DAY & ARE TILL THIS DAY. I was the STATION AGENT THAT CALLED BROOKLYN STATIONS DEPT THAT DAY & told them what was going on that morning from Wall St R203 4/5 train station. WE WERE THERE TOO WHEN THAT TRAIN WITH ALL THOSE PEOPLE WERE PULLED UP FROM UNDER THAT RUBBLE. Now NYCTA/MTA won’t give us our work locations from those days preceding the attacks which is stopping us from obtaining disability from the state pension. There are numerous of us past & present NYCTA/MTA employees that need these protections & no one is helping us. I AM GRATEFUL THIS ARTICLE WAS MADE. I hope someone reaches out to me.
