To the Editor: Comptroller Scott Stringer’s appeal to workers (Sept. 20 letter), where the Comptroller explains prevailing wages and benefits for the private sector, did not mention the fact that all the statements he made are equally true for public-sector civil-service employees who his office is equally responsible for ensuring compliance. Unfortunately his office receives a “D” grade.
To be fair, for the titles in City Rule Part 38 and our City Laborers title, which has a right to file a single complaint for an entire group of workers for true prevailing wages and benefits, he does a great job on wages. But the Comptroller’s office has a history of bowing out of its responsibilities when it comes to the value of supplemental benefits and allows the Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations to cost those anyway they want.
