To the Editor: As a retired police officer, it was gratifying to see the "lynching-murderers" of Ahmaud Arbery get convicted of murder. They will certainly also face a Federal civil-rights trial, if only to bring out the racist motivations of the defendants, which were carefully left out of the state criminal trial.
The video really told the whole story, but leave it to some defense attorneys to make every attempt to victimize the victim. In this case, the defense attorney for Gregory McMichael, Laura Hogue, tried to dehumanize Mr. Arbery, going so far as to point out that Arbery was wearing khaki shorts and no socks to cover his long dirty toenails.
