To the Editor: One of the key components of Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza’s philosophy, which he has infused into Department of Education policy, is the learning and modelling of skills to de-escalate confrontational behavior.
At the much-publicized meeting in Bayside, Queens Jan. 16, he failed to practice what he preaches. By remaining mute, then truncating a meeting, walking out in a huff, and later chiding a parent for “grandstanding,” he gave the DOE a black eye.
