If Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña fires someone in the controversy over the sale of copies of “Frankenstein” at cost to students at Midwood High School, it shouldn’t be Todd Friedman.

Mr. Friedman is a 29-year veteran of the public schools who’s spent the last 13 at Midwood. Wanting his Advanced Placement English students to have copies that they could make notes in, he ordered 102 copies of the Mary Shelley classic, paid $223 for them counting shipping costs, and then sold them to students for $2 each. In other words, he set himself up for a $19 loss on the transaction.
