Last year, the Office of Court Administration was shamed into complying with a law signed in 2017 by Governor Cuomo and restoring leave time that Lieut. Angela Shirlaw exhausted while undergoing treatment for breast cancer, including a double mastectomy. That law retroactively granted unlimited leave to workers dealing with medical issues resulting from their work in the post-9/11 rescue and recovery efforts.
This Sept. 10, OCA notified Ms. Shirlaw that 81 of the 962 leave hours that had been restored were being rescinded.
