Mayor de Blasio plans to crack down on the improper use of city parking placards, just weeks after he authorized the issuance of about 50,000 parking permits to Department of Education staff.
In 2008, Mayor Michael Bloomberg cut the number of DOE placards from 63,000 to 11,000 to reduce road congestion. The United Federation of Teachers made a deal with the DOE that allowed the number of designated parking spots its members could use to stay the same even though the number of permits decreased by 82 percent.
