Many weeks into the COVID19 pandemic, and there is no official estimate of the number of "essential" workers in the private and public sector in New York State who have succumbed to the virus or will be disabled long-term after contracting the disease on the job.
But the devastating impact across the public and private sectors for essential workers has prompted calls for swift reform of the state's Workers Compensation and Civil Service laws, as well as the state's workplace-safety laws and regulations.
