The Minnesota chapter of the AFL-CIO June 2 called for the resignation of Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis President Bob Kroll in the wake of George Floyd's killing by one of his members, charging that he had promoted intolerance of blacks within the rank and file.
That demand, which echoed one made the previous day by a former Minneapolis Police Chief who frequently clashed with Lieutenant Kroll, came the day before Derek Chauvin, the police officer accused of killing Mr. Floyd by pressing his knee into his neck for nearly nine minutes, had the charges against him upgraded to second-degree murder. That same day, three other officers were indicted for charges that including aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
