President Harry Truman's famous line, "If you can’t stand the heat, get out the kitchen" is not an option for kitchen staff working in city public schools who say that they’ve had to work in dangerous temperatures.
District Council 37’s Local 372 and dozens of elected officials rallied Aug. 5 at 250 Broadway across the street from City Hall to call on the Department of Education and the School Construction Authority to create a task force that would assess the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in school kitchens, many of which are decades old.
