Departing Corrections Commissioner Joseph Ponte last week fired a deputy who the Department of Investigation asserted had listened in on telephone calls between its investigators and inmate informants.
“Following several days of careful evaluation, Commissioner Ponte determined termination was appropriate,” Department of Correction spokesman Peter Thorne told the New York Times, which was the first to report the dismissal of Deputy Commissioner for Investigations Gregory Kuczinski.
