“One-Upping de Blasio? Again?” was the front part of a New York Times headline for a Columbus Day story strongly implying that Governor Cuomo picked the holiday to announce that the state would commission a statue to honor Mother Cabrini because it served the dual purpose of being good politics and sticking it to Mayor de Blasio.
But even if you believe those were the Governor’s only motives, they lead into two obvious questions: why did the Mayor put himself in a position to be embarrassed by Mr. Cuomo, and hadn’t he asked for it with his special brand of obtuseness?
