Anthony Weiner keeps insisting that voters want to hear about the issues rather than the personal quirks that have taken him from the front of the Democratic pack to also-ran status less than a month before the Sept. 10 mayoral primary. The only trouble is, he keeps stepping on the issues by reminding city residents of the negative side of his personality.

Three weeks ago, the revelation about serial sexting going on last summer between Mr. Weiner and a young woman named Sydney Leathers blasted a giant hole in his front-runner status and momentum in the polls. The week after that, even as Ms. Leathers began introducing herself to the public while expressing an interest in a kind of pornographic re-enactment of her computer and phone dalliances with Mr. Weiner, his campaign allowed the issue to gather more steam when Communications Director Barbara Morgan unloaded in x-rated language on a former campaign intern who made allegations that operations in Camp Weiner did not much resemble a well-oiled machine.
