The upset loss of Washington D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty on Sept. 14 by challenger Vincent Gray had many national figures, particularly those on the right, blaming the American Federation of Teachers, which they charged had spent heavily to oust him because of his controversial Schools Chancellor, Michelle Rhee.
