Emergency Medical Service employees who were inadvertently overpaid a combined $3.5 million between March and late August will have the option of either having all or part of the extra payment refunded from back wages they will soon receive or with smaller deductions starting with next year's paychecks.
According to Vincent Variale, who as president of Local 3621 of District Council 37 represents EMS officers, the overpayments ranged from $600 to as high as $14,000 in a handful of cases.
