The Department of Education’s Panel for Educational Policy Aug. 17 approved a $120-million Verizon contract for phone and Internet services at city schools, despite protests from union members, education activists and elected officials who said the vote should be postponed because of labor action against the company and recent charges of Verizon subsidiaries stealing money from DOE.
