The City University of New York has reversed course on a decision to delay equity-pay raises for thousands of its lowest-paid full-time employees, reaching an agreement Feb. 26 with the Professional Staff Congress to distribute this year’s increases as a lump-sum payment.
The $1,000 raises for 1,295 Assistants to Higher Education Officers that were supposed to take effect Feb. 1 will be implemented Feb. 1, 2022. This year, the union and CUNY have agreed that Assistants to HEOs will receive a $1,000 lump-sum payment. Similarly, the $1,500 equity pay raises for 1,262 Lecturers that would have been in effect April 1 will be implemented the following April 1, and Lecturers will receive a $1,500 lump-sum payment this year. Both lump-sum payments will be used in calculating employee pension allowances.
