The Correction Officers Benevolent Association called on Mayor de Blasio last week to appoint a Correction Commissioner with experience running jails rather than prisons.
Jails hold suspects awaiting trial for relatively short periods, while prison inmates have been convicted and sentenced to terms that can last for years. The average length of stay for inmates in New York City’s jails is under 60 days, COBA said.
